Andy Clutter

I am a high school teacher who teaches physical education, health, and personal training.  I instruct my high school seniors in the art of personal training.  I have turned the personal training course into part of our curriculum.  The students study the course with me for the entire school year and then take the exam at the end  of the year.

What made you choose to teach the IFPA Personal Trainer course?

I chose to teach  the IFPA personal training course because I am passionate about being fit and helping others become fit.  I feel that the best way for me to accomplish this is to create more personal trainers armed with the knowledge to help others.

How long have you been teaching this program?

I have been teaching the IFPA course here at Washington High School for the last 13 years.

What would you say are the benefits for students taking this course in high school?

The benefits of taking this course in high school are:  it arms students with the knowledge of how to lead a healthy lifestyle at an early age, it gives them a huge jump on other students when they enter college in the disciplines of anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, kinesiology, and nutrition.

What kind of feedback have you received from your students about your class/course?

The students love the course.  They enjoy learning about the body and how to transform their body as well as others.  The students that come back to see me after a year or tow of college tell me that they were leaps and bounds ahead of the other students because of what they learned in the personal training course.
