What made you choose a career in personal fitness training?
Helping others has always been extremely pleasant for me! When I was 12 years old, I used to finish my swimming routines and would immediately run towards the lane of beginners to help them with their technique. One day my swimming trainer saw me doing this. He offered me a job teaching special kids in a program. The program was set up to have advanced swimmers assist beginner swimmers and help the beginners break their fear of water. Right there my life took this path.

What made you choose the IFPA?
When I moved to the United States of America from Venezuela, my home country in 2012, I started my research to continue my career as Fitness professional. At the moment, the most attractive feature I saw was the personal trainer certification was in Spanish!
This for sure was of huge help for me, taking in consideration I didn’t know the language at this time. Then I researched Dr. Bell and this was definitely a great find. After looking and comparing several certifications around, I decided to make my first call and customer service made me feel like I was home! So, I jumped into this magnificent family and allowed them to help me on my fresh start.
If you have taken more than our PFT course, what has been your favorite certification course?
Every one of them has their own charm and every time I get into a new book, it makes me want to learn more. I would say the Sports Medicine Specialist Certification is something every professional in this field MUST have.
What are some adjectives your clients would use to describe you?
That depends on when. Lol!!!! If we are in a training session, the looks that I receive are evil. Now, when the storm passes, they say I am more than a trainer for them: responsible, observant, careful, energetic, dynamic, challenger, motivational, dedicated…
What qualities set you apart from other personal trainers? Education, experience?
The capacity to LISTEN beyond words and SEE things beyond what they look like biomechanically speaking. My brain is always trying to make things better for my people. Also, being extra careful with little details, not taking anything for granted and always, no matter how advance you think your clients are, teach them what you know! Share your opinion in why you do things the way you do.

What aspect of personal fitness training do you like most?
As my trainees say you are my: Personal Trainer, Fitness Instructor, Boss, Leader, Friend, Brother, Father, Counselor, Therapist… There are infinite ways of helping people. We have a huge responsibility in our hands and the community needs good professionals out there. We can be the beginning or end of many problems! That’s why I take it so seriously.
What is your best success story?
I think my success is merely reflected in the improvement of my clients. Maybe helping someone with Ataxia to walk again has been the most rewarding goal in my fitness career. Other things like: Having my own fitness method and fitness line clothing, are just consequences of those kind of events.
How has the PFT business changed since you started?
The two biggest changes from my view point are
There are many gurus out there hurting the field. People that for example: Lost 100 pounds (generally speaking) by using some serious health threatening methods and that magically and automatically entitles them to be HEALTH COACHES and advise others on nutrition and conditioning, applying exactly the same strategies they used to achieve their goal on every person that innocently crosses their path. At the same time, these gurus give us an advantage to show the enormous difference between the right and wrong way to do fitness.
Fitness doesn’t stop, and you shouldn’t stop either. Every day things change. People like Dr. Bell, makes it easier for us to access valuable information that wasn’t here before. You just have to read, learn and make sure you are getting the information from the right sources.
How do you envision growing your personal training business?

What was the hardest challenge you had to overcome in your personal training career?
Coming from a family of accountants and sales people, nobody took it seriously when I became a Personal Trainer. When I was younger, people always made comments like,

When are you going to get a real Job?
You don’t think exercise will financially sustain you forever right?
Well, well, well… I have done all I wanted and more since I started this career. Many people choose careers because the amount of money they think they can make if they get the title of “fill in the blank”.
I know many unhappy people posting things on social media about hating MONDAY. For me, every single day is a Friday. If you treat fitness the right way, it will always have your back and take you were you never imagined.
What is your best advice to someone just starting their career as a personal trainer?
Never Stop Learning.
