Marcus Copeland

From the IFPA Team:

As of September 30th, 2018, Marcus Copeland attempted to break the Guinness World Record for Mens Pushups in 1 hour. We are proud to say he crushed the previous 2,806 record. The evidence is being reviewed by Guinness World Records at this time. Regardless of the outcome, we are so proud of this insane accomplishment and are incredibly blessed the Copelands are part of our IFPA Family!

What made you choose a career in personal fitness training?

I was diagnosed with having borderline hypertension and made a conscious decision to improve my health and change my life. Once I saw the changes it made in my life I wanted to be able to share that knowledge and experience with others.

How long have you been a Personal Trainer?

Over 10 years

What made you choose the IFPA?

When I was comparing the accrediting bodies the IFPA had stricter prerequisites and requirements which I felt would give me a deeper understanding of human anatomy and physiology.

What are some adjectives your clients would use to describe you?

They would say I am strict, but I get results.  Funny, dedicated, sarcastic…I push them past their limits and motivate them to be the best version of themselves.

What qualities set you apart from other personal trainers?  Education, experience?

The biggest thing that sets me apart is my specialty for creating amazing routines. My life experiences also prepared me to be able to train clients from all walks of life.

What aspect of personal fitness training do you like most?

I like the freedom of being a gym owner and working on my own schedule, also being  able to see the changes and progress my clients make is something I really enjoy.

What is your best success story?

I had two young men in poor physical condition. One was attempting to get into the military and the other was attempting to get into the DEA.  Both of them passed the physical fitness portion of their test at the top of their class after training with me for several months. I also had another client that was barely able to walk, and I helped in rehabbing her knee to the point where she is now able to run. Several of my other clients have come off of blood pressure and diabetic medicines as a direct result of my training regimen.

How has the PFT business changed since you started?

The PFT business in my area has changed because there has been an influx of fads and quick fixes in the fitness world. This make it harder for trainers, like myself, who are dedicated to implementing realistic lifestyle changes to obtain optimum results.

How do you envision growing your personal training business?

By hiring trainers in my gym to learn how to implement my routines and allow me time to be creative and grow my business in other directions.

What was the hardest challenge you had to overcome in your personal training career?

Understanding the demographics of the clientele and market and finding my niche.

What is your best advice to someone just starting their career as a personal trainer?

You have to be willing to do what other people won’t do and make the sacrifices they won’t make. That is the necessary mindset to be successful in any business.
