What made you choose a career in personal fitness training?

I have always been interested in helping people, but it was not until I experienced firsthand how fitness and sports, in general, can help one live a healthier and happier life, that I decided to become a personal trainer. At first, being a personal trainer was my side job, but I have recently started working as a full-time personal trainer.

How long have you been a Personal Trainer?

I have been a personal trainer for 1.5 years.

What made you chose the IFPA?

When I become interested in becoming a personal trainer, I looked at various programs offered in Slovenia. Luckily, I was in contact with Ales Potrc, IFPA Director of European Education, who introduced me to the IFPA. In comparison to other courses, the IFPA provides in-depth theoretical knowledge that covers training, business, and nutrition, as well as practical knowledge that you cannot get anywhere else. Moreover, I think a great aspect of the IFPA course is also that you have to renew your certificate. This means that you constantly have to learn and improve yourself.

What are some adjectives your clients would use to describe you?

Quiet, kind, supportive, strict, unyielding, always smiling.

What qualities set you apart from other personal trainers? Education? Experience?

What sets me apart from other personal trainers is my own life experiences and challenges regarding mindset, fitness, and nutrition. Because of these, I can relate to people and better understand what struggles they are facing and what kind of support they need. I am also lucky to work with people who have a tremendous amount of knowledge in this field and from whom I can learn on a daily basis.

What aspect of personal fitness training do you like most?

I like helping people achieve their goals and witnessing the progress they are making.

What is your best success story?

It would be hard to choose the best success story since people come to me for different reasons that cannot be compared. I believe that if I, as a personal trainer, can educate clients on how to reach their goals and help them on their journey, the story of each and every one of them is a success.

How has the PFT business changed since you started?

Since I have only been a trainer for 1.5 years, I cannot say I witnessed dramatic changes during this time. However, I have noticed that people are becoming more interested in changing their habits and leading a healthier lifestyle, but are often confused due to the amount of conflicting information that is available to them. Luckily, they are beginning to see personal trainers as people who can help them realize these changes and not only stereotypically as people who are “obsessed” with fitness and bodybuilding and are prepared to enlist their help. Moreover, as we are currently going through the COVID-19 crisis, the PFT business will probably change significantly in the coming months.

How do you envision growing your personal training business?

I would like to continue expanding my knowledge and skills while working with my current team to grow our business and be able to provide assistance to even more people.

What was the hardest challenge you had to overcome in your personal training career?

The hardest challenge I had to overcome was believing in myself and gaining the confidence to leave my job to become a full-time personal trainer.

What is your best advice to someone just starting their career as a personal trainer?

The best advice would be, to stop waiting for the right time. You will never be fully prepared. Just start working in any way that you can to obtain as much real-life experience as you can. Find a mentor/s who can teach you about all aspects of the PFT business. Never stop learning, and applying the knowledge you receive.
