What made you choose the IFPA?

I was given 6 training session with a personal trainer as a gift. Trainer was with IFPA and he was so good I worked with him to become a trainer myself.

How long have you been Personal Training?

10 years

What qualities set you apart from other personal trainers? Education? Experience?

I work as a Ergonomist at Newport News Shipbuilding which builds the aircraft carriers and we are always trying to improve our industrial athlete program. I have a B.S. in Business Administration and M.S. in Safety Studies. 30 years experience in health and safety, 10 years as a part time personal trainer and I participate in various different sports.

What is your best advice to someone just starting in the business?

There is so much information concerning this field you must be like a sponge and absorb as much as you can to become a true professional.

What made you choose a career in personal fitness training?

My parents and brother died to early in life and I wanted to help myself and others to choose a healthier life style. Also this has helped me a great deal in my other career as a ergonomist/safety engineer.

How has the PFT business changed since you started?

The economy has caused me to do more group and buddy training so my clients can afford the personal training services. It seems the fitness field is always changing with new equipment, technique, nutrition, motivation and encouragement, and probably the most important accountability of personal training certifications.
