I became a trainer in 1988. I enjoyed helping fellow athletes in football, track and bodybuilding, helping them to get stronger and faster.
What are some adjectives your clients would use to describe you?
Clients describe me as “friendly, personable and knowledgeable, a no nonsense trainer that still can make working out fun”.
What made you choose the IFPA?
The IFPA offered the widest variety of certifications.
How do you keep your clients motivated?
I give my clients constant reminders of nutrition and continual education and goal setting.
If you have taken more than one course, what has been your favorite certification course?
The basic personal trainer course was my favorite because I learned a lot of basic principles not about training but about how to start a business.
What is your best success story?
I had a female client over 60 who lost 150 pounds in only 11 months, giving her the ability to walk stairs she couldn’t walk before and also gave her a positive attitude.
What qualities set you apart from other personal trainers? Education? Experience?
My applied knowledge in exercise and nutrition as a collegiate athlete in football and track as well as an IFBB professional bodybuilder helps to set me apart from other personal trainers. I also have a passion for helping others reach their goals.
How do you envision growing your personal training business?
I am currently working on offering more online services to my current clients as well as trying to serve new clients who may not reside near me.
What is your best advice to someone just starting in the business?
Don’t take it personal when someone fails. You are only their educator and ultimately it is up to them to take the knowledge that you give them and to apply it to reach their goals.
