Chana Saag

Comforting, flavorful, and deeply nourishing—our Chana Saag brings together hearty chickpeas and silky spinach in a vibrant dish that feels both wholesome and indulgent. Perfect for a cozy evening meal or when you're craving something hearty yet healthful, this recipe is as satisfying as it is easy to prepare.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 red onion diced
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 jalapeno, diced
- 1 beefsteak tomato, deseeded and diced
- ½ tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- ½ cup water
- 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 4 cups fresh spinach
- ½ tsp garam masala
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice
- Cilantro
Directions:
In medium pot, add butter to melt.
Once melted add onion and jalapeno, and sauté until onions are translucent and slightly browned.
Add in the tomato and cumin, stir well to combine; cover and cook for 3 mins or until tomatoes are soft.
Add water and lower the heat to medium, allowing the spices to cook into the tomatoes.
After 3 minutes add the chickpeas and cook until the dish heated all the way through.
Add Spinach and garam masala and cook until spinach is wilted.
Remove from heat and add lemon juice, stirring until well combined.
Serve over rice and topped with cilantro or with some Naan for full robust flavor.
