Tanner's Black Beans

Ingredients:

  • 1 Red Onion, Diced
  • 1 Bell Pepper, seeded and diced
  • 6 garlic cloves, peeled and smashed
  • Olive oil
  • 8 Cups water
  • 1 lbs. dry black or kidney beans
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 1 heaping tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • Garlic salt
  • Pepper

 

Directions:

Add red onion, bell pepper, garlic, and olive oil (not be stingy) to pot on medium-high heat and Sauté.

Once onions are soft, add remaining ingredients.

Bring to boil.

Once boil has been reached, lower to a simmer.

Simmer for 60-90 mins, stirring occasionally, until thick.

Once water has been absorbed and is thick, remove bay leaves.

Serve over rice.

 

*Note: to add some meat, start step one with browning with onions, bell pepper, and garlic. Cubed Ham is a personal favorite of the family.
